How to do NOTHING & get everything done.
Do you ever just have the desire to do absolutely nothing?
And by nothing… I mean nothing…No work. No planning. No projects. No taking care of others. No studying. No reading. No social media. No talking. No music. No distractions. Nothing.
If you have these moments, where you just don’t want to do anything at all, you’re not alone.

I, myself, enjoy doing nothing. In fact, I love doing nothing so much that I intentionally create space in my schedule every week to do just that…nothing.
And while it may seem odd to create time away to do nothing, it’s actually quite beneficial and healthy to do nothing…
But you’re probably thinking…who has “time” to do nothing?
Wasting time or nah?
We’re always busy or occupied doing something…either for others, for work, or for our family, friends….that when we do find any “down” time…we try to fill it with something we can do for ourselves for once, instead…right?
Like there’s so much to do and to see. We have this entire planet that has so much beauty to offer us. There’s so many things to explore and discover. New activities, new adventures, new movies, tv shows. Friends to catch up with. Many of us may even have FOMO, where if we spend time doing nothing, we may feel like we’re wasting time or missing out on something.
But it’s when we do nothing, that we are able to recharge. It’s when we do nothing, that allows our brain to slow down enough to get really creative to start forming our best ideas. It’s when we do nothing, that we can begin to start noticing things we may haven’t taken time to notice before because we were just so busy doing something.
The art of doing NOTHING
…It’s in these moments of doing nothing, that we are actually doing EVERYTHING.
This is the art of doing nothing
To make the most out of life….to create & live an abundant, joyous, fulfilling life…we need to be able to slow down & rejuvenate.
Slowing down & doing nothing gives us the space to tap into our wise mind, get back in touch with who we are & what we want our lives to look like, & restore the energy needed to do the work we need to do to make it happen.
Many of us though are too busy to just do nothing. And even if we do somehow find time to “do nothing,” our minds are often distracted thinking of all of the things we still have to do, etc…which doesn’t allow us to truly relax. We can’t really enjoy doing nothing which also then makes it “boring.”
But doing nothing is not the same as being bored…they’re very different.
Do nothing and let it be nothing
Being bored is when we’re being distracted with no real idea of what we are actually doing. So when we’re bored, it means we’re not fully being present while not doing nothing.
Doing nothing CAN be a total waste of time but it can also be an art form….
The key here in being able to do nothing and to be prezent with it— is through the practice of patience & mindfulness….two important skills to cultivate. If you can practice these two essential skills and master them, then you can most likely then get to this place of doing nothing and being okay with it…
Here are some tips that may help you become a master of doing nothing and in the process help you to melt away the stress & make your life more productive and creative.
How to actually do nothing
Step # 1— ** UNPLUGG **
It’s challenging to do nothing when we’re always being “called” to do something. So the biggest thing you want to do for yourself to truly be in this state of doing nothing…is to ditch the phone…the tv….the computer…the laptop….the iPad….alll of the devices, just leave them alone.
Step #2– Then find a time & place when there aren’t so many distractions going on or ppl around to bother you.
Step #3– Start slow. Doing nothing can feel overwhelming. Trying to do nothing for a long time can seem like a death sentence sometimes. So try starting around 5-10 minutes of doing nothing at a time.
Step #4– Now do nothing…
And that’s it.
After 5-10 minutes of doing nothing is up…you can get up and do whatever it is you have to do.
Side note… also try to do this everyday or as often as possible because then how else would you get good at doing nothing without practice?
And also note that you can try doing nothing literally anywhere.
You can try doing nothing while you drive…or while you shower…
You can go outside and do nothing….or while on line or waiting for your appointment.
Get creative. Find as many moments as you can to put this idea of doing nothing really into practice.
If you really want to take doing nothing to the next level, then also try to be really relaxed in this state of nothingness.
…How?

To enhance your experience even further of doing nothing…you may want to create a sacred space for yourself.
You can find a place where you feel comfortable and safe to do nothing. Maybe a cozy spot on the floor, soft grass seated outside, or a hammock? Maybe sitting on a chair or in your car…somewhere that can again…help enhance your experience to feel more relaxed.
You can also start breathing mindfully….Noticing as you breathe.
So breathing in….noticing what it feels like. Breathe out…noticing what that feels like.
And just noticing this process for 5-10 mins and really allowing yourself to experience it. Because in being able to fully allow yourself to be focused in on this process….can be enough to distract you from thinking of other things…which then can help you to feel more relaxed.
